About Thermal Wave Imaging

Thermal Wave Imaging (TWI) is the world’s leading provider of thermographic Nondestructive Testing (NDT) solutions to the aerospace and power generation industries, also serving industries ranging from automotive and electronics to sporting goods. Since 1993, TWI has been at the forefront of thermographic NDT and has played a pioneering role in moving the technology from the laboratory to the “real world” of manufacturing and maintenance for the world’s leading companies and research institutions. Our products are known as the worldwide standard of excellence in thermography, used in the most demanding manufacturing, in-service and research applications.

TWI: There is a difference!

Innovators Not Imitators – When we started TWI in 1993, thermography was rarely used as a primary NDT method. Since then, we’ve addressed many of the toughest problems in the field, bringing thermography into the NDT mainstream by developing innovative solutions that are often copied, but rarely matched, setting the standard for NDT performance.

Real Systems for Real-World Problems – Our systems are much more than a collection of off-the-shelf parts. We design and build key components using patented TWI technologies, and work closely with leading OEMs to qualify every piece of the system to insure optimum performance in the field, where it counts.

It’s About Solutions – We work closely with our customers to understand their requirements, then helping them select the appropriate technology, and guiding them through validation, design, implementation, training and certification.

Proven Partners – Our customers, many of the world’s most advanced companies and research institutions, depend on TWI equipment for some of their most demanding applications. Our systems and technologies have been validated in numerous independent studies and academic papers.

We are committed to providing the highest level of service to our customers (don’t take our word for it, ask them).

Why TWI? Just Ask Around…

“When both 90% PoD levels and false calls are considered, [TWI] thermography provided the best overall performance.” – Federal Aviation Administration (2016). A Quantitative Assessment of Conventional and Advanced Nondestructive Inspection Techniques for Detecting Flaws in Composite Honeycomb Aircraft Structures (DOT/FAA/TC-15/63).
“Over the past decade, the TSR technique has been proven to be one of the most efficient image processing methods to improve the detection of defects by pulsed thermography.” -J.M. Roche, 6th Int’l Symposium on NDT in Aerospace, 2014, Madrid, Spain
“Flash thermography plus TSR provides detection of defects at an earlier time and therefore better spatial resolution.” -Material Evaluation by Infrared Thermography, S. Holland and R. Reusser, 2016, Center for Nondestructive Evaluation, Iowa State Univ
“It has been demonstrated that a smart use of the TSR approach can make the quality of thermographic images comparable to that of ultrasonics.” -Balageas, Chapuis et al, QIRT10 10th International Conference on Quantitative IR Thermography July 27-30, 2010, Québec
